What do “Template” and “Direct” mode mean and how do I decide which one I should use?

Printing in Template mode will cause markups to be inserted into a newly created copy of the document being printed, instead of directly on the document itself. If you do not want to make changes to the original document, print in Template Mode. Note: Printing using Command-line automation does not provide this option. It always defaults to Direct mode.
